DAY 1 & 2 SABUK LODGE
Fly Wilson Airport, Nairobi to Nanyuki. Private charter Nanyuki - Sabuk in a Cessna 182. On arrival at Colcheccio airstrip you will be met by your guide and driven to Sabuk. Settle in and enjoy a refreshing swim in the Ewaso Nyiro River before an evening walk.
Sabuk Description:
On the edge of the Laikipia Plateau and Samburu land. Sabuk overlooks the Ewaso Nyiro River which tumbles through the rocky gorge 150 feet below. There is good game and birding in the area and incredible scenery. The lodge has 5 unique en-suite bedrooms, each comfortably furnished and built with natural materials. They are perched on the hillside with wonderful views of the Ewaso Nyiro River and the valleys beyond.
DAY 3 & 4 SABUK FLY CAMP
Early morning breakfast whilst the camels are being readied for the safari to Loisaba. The camels carry all the camp equipment and supplies. After breakfast begin your walking safari with the Laikipia Maasai and their camels. The camels offer an excellent vantage point for viewing game. After a leisurely 4 hour walk, having enjoyed game viewing and birding on the way, arrive at the campsite ready for a hearty lunch. The fly-camp will be set up prior to your arrival. The afternoon is spent relaxing in the camp with a siesta followed by swimming in the river, fishing, bird watching with an evening walk to end. After a hot bucket shower and supper round the campfire, retire to your ’netted bed’ under the stars and moonlight.
Sabuk Fly-Camp Description:
The Fly-Camp is put up each morning. The ’tents’ are made from heavy netting that enable guests to enjoy sleeping out under the stars on a camp bed. Flysheets are placed onto the tents in wet weather. The camp has hot bucket showers and meals are around the campfire.
DAY 5 LOISABA
Today you will walk with the camels from your fly camp to Loisaba. Overnight at the Star beds.
Starbeds Description:
The Kiboko & Koija are two wonderful ’Starbed Platforms’, which comprise 2 double Starbed Platforms and one large family Platform for 4 people. Each one has an en-suite bathroom and shower.
Loisaba Wilderness Description:
The Loisaba Wilderness area is the same size as the Ngorongoro Crater and larger than many of Kenya’s principal National Parks. To the north lie the grassy plains of the plateau, to the south; the plateau breaks into valleys, cliffs and escarpments that frame stunning views up to the snows of Mount Kenya. At its base lies a riverine ecosystem Along the banks of 2 major rivers, the Ewaso Nyiro and Engare Narok. The wilderness is a haven for more than 250 species of birds and 50 species of mammal, including: Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Gerenuk, Greater kudu, Reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra. Wild dog, thought for many years to be extinct in the region are now re-colonising the area.
DAY 6 LOISABA
You have a choice of either staying another night at the Starbeds or transferring to Loisaba Lodge.
Loisaba Lodge Description:
Loisaba Lodge was originally built as the Kenyan home of Count Ancilotto. Perched high on the edge of the Laikipia Plateau, the views are magnificent. The lodge is constructed from stone, local timber and thatch, and is perched high on the edge of the plateau looking south towards Mount Kenya. Each room has large windows that open onto a private deck cantilevered off the escarpment. The views are legendary, and a water hole a few hundred feet below draws continuous wildlife. All the furniture in the lodge is handmade at Loisaba.
DAY 7 DEPART
Depart to the airstrip for your private charter to Nanyuki in a Cessna C182 and onward flight to Wilson Airport, Nairobi. Fly home this evening or continue onto a beach destination.
