Lake Victoria

Lake Victoria is the largest freshwater lake in Africa and the second largest in the world spanning 68,800 sq kms. Believed to be at the source of the Nile, and after many failed explorations in the 19th century the idea was finally proven. From the lake the water flows out through Uganda eventually reaching Egypt and then beyond into the Mediterranean.

Bordering Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya the lake is accessible mainly by air and offers visitors a quiet and remote destination. The best way to appreciate the beauty of this region is on the lake itself. In trees along the shore, the spectacular Fish Eagles call to each other and the opportunity to take a sunsets cruise is unmissable, as the local fisherman in their canoes pull in their nets and slowly turn for home for the evening.

One of the great highlights of the lake is the rich fish life, shoals of Cichlids and large Nile perch are in abundance making this a must visit place for anyone keen on fishing.
