Katavi National Park

Katavi is one of the smaller National Parks in Tanzania, yet it is a most fascinating and well kept secret, given little mention in the average guidebook. Set high on a flood plain in the south-west it truly is one of the remotest National Parks, taking 4 hours to fly there from Dar es Salaam and up to 5 days to drive!

Completely unspoilt, is said to have a greater number and variety of game than any other park in Africa and yet because of it’s inaccessibility fewer than one hundred people visit each year. The wildlife barely notice this sprinkling of hardy safari goers and apart from the natural predators, live a carefree life of complete seclusion. Some of the wildlife you may encounter is lion, leopard, impala, eland, black legged topi, zebra, buffalo, elephant, hippo, crocodile and more than 400 bird species.

When to go? Dry season between May-October and mid December-February.
