Kilimanjaro National Park
Mount Kilimanjaro is not only the highest peak in Africa but, the highest free-standing mountain in the world. First conquered in 1889 by Professor Hans Meyers, today’s climbers have six recognised routes to the summit, although most opt for the comparatively easier and well-trodden Marangu route taking around six/seven days to climb up and down.

The lower slopes of the mountain are surrounded by a lush green forest providing home for many elephant, buffalo, antelope and leopard as well as a rich and diverse plant life making it a great destination even if you don’t climb.
Best months to climb Mount Kilimanjaro are: January, February, July, August, September and December when it’s dry and sunny.
