Ndumo is one of the smaller, but still spectacular parks in South Africa, established in the 1920’s it is thought to be one of South Africas oldest reserves and today it links well the adjacent Tembe Elephant Park. They are both great water based parks with some areas resembling the Okavango Dealt in Botswana, with riverine floodplains fed by the Pongola and Usutu Rivers, and the large water pans are lined with giant fig trees and yellow-barked fever trees.

Like Hlulhuwe National Park, Ndumo supports both black and white rhino as well as large pods of hippo and herds of buffalo and the big cats, lion and leopard and the rarely spotted hyena. However, it is the vast quantities of bird life that has made Ndumo the number one destination for all keen twitchers. Whilst the huge numbers of elephants are the attraction in Tembe.
