Zomba Plateau

The Zomba plateau is south of Liwonde and rises 1000m from the plains. It is Malawi’s oldest forest reserve and because of its height is covered by evergreen forest, grasslands and mountain streams.

The area offers stunning views of Mount Mulanje, the Shire Valley and Lake Chilwa. There, enjoy the lush scenery, interesting plant species and spot Leopard, blue monkeys and various mountain and forest birds and butterflies.

The historic town of Zomba at the foot of the plateau was until the 1970’s the capital of Malawi and there is plenty to see here such as the botanical gardens, colonial architecture and a large, colourful street market.
