Vwaza Game reserve is well worth a visit due to the beautiful scenery and large concentration of game. The lake is home to a large number of hippos, and elephants and buffalo can often be spotted.

There are a number of 4WD tracks around the reserve, and walking around the lake is particularly rewarding, but you must be accompanied by a game ranger. Bird watching is excellent, and is one of the only areas in Malawi for waders.
