Lake Victoria

To the west of Kenya it borders Lake Victoria, where just offshore is the beautiful Mfangano Island. Lake Victoria acts as a boundary between Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya.

The lake itself is rich in fish and birdlife and supports an abundant ecosystem, being the second largest freshwater lake in the world. The lake is not part of the Rift Valley with its waters only reaching a maximum 100m depth. Bordering the lake is lush vegetation interspersed with fishing villages where you will always find a friendly welcome and a few Nile perch being roasted. As well as fishing villages you'll find the largest town in western Kenya, Kisumu.

Mfangano Island, Lake Victoria is an ooasis of tranquillity and ideal to relax away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
