The Masai Mara Game Reserve is possibly the most visited park in Africa, a fantastic destination all year round, but it is for the great migration that thousands of visitors make the journey. The Mara River is the crossing point between Tanzania and Kenya where the wildebeest and zebra run the gauntlet every year in search of greener pastures on the other side.

The best time to witness this spectacle is usually between July and September although being a purely natural phenomenon, it can change each year depending when the rains come.
Apart from the annual migration, the game viewing in the Mara is spectacular, and is why the BBC’s Big Cat Diary made it their home. There are huge herds of elephants, black rhino, buffalo, zebra, hartebeest, topi and the big cats roam the plains and the rivers are home to hippo and crocodiles. It is also a bird watchers paradise with over 452 species, 53 of which are raptors.
