Mount Kenya is actually an extinct volcano that straddles the equator and is the second highest peak in Africa. It is much quieter to climb than it’s Tanzanian neighbour, attracting the more technical climbers looking for a challenge but is also accessible for the fit and experienced trekker.

The snow capped mountain is surrounded by it’s own national park, with harsh dry forests, and further up the slopes, lush greener vegetation and beautifully clear mountain streams. The game here too is very rewarding; with vast numbers of elephant, and rare and impressive sights of the Bongo forest antelope, eland and black rhino as well as the infamous predators.

The mountain must also be respected by visitors to the park as it is deemed to be a sacred and holy mountain for the local Kikuyu tribes-people, who believe that is it the home of the Supreme Being, Ngai.
