Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located at the lower southwest corner of Uganda just a few miles from its border with Rwanda.

The park spans across the steep ridges of the Albertine Rift Valley and is home to 90 mammal species, 11 of which are primates. This region is home to almost half the world's populations of mountain gorillas and is one of the best birdwatchingregions in Africa.

Bwindi is a UNESCO/World Heritage protected area, not only because of its animal wildlife, but because of its amazing biodiversity, having over 160 species of trees and 100 species of ferns. It also has some of the rarest butterfly species in the world.

The altitude span here ranges from 1100m to 2700m which accounts for its biodiversity and the large concentration of mountain gorillas. Gorilla tracking safaris are popular, but strictly controlled with permits required to enter the area (on average only six permits a day are granted).
