Katavi National Park is one of the wildest places on earth, Chada camp is the sanctuary within, no less or more than that. It’s deliberately simple, from the food to the furniture it’s good, tasteful, and unpretentious. Breakfast is under the trees, lighting is solar, beds (with linen sheets) are under canvas, hot showers are hung from a bush behind each tent. But if that’s all a bit too much, you’re encouraged to do the real thing, with bedrolls and mosquito nets by an open fire in the Star Camp, which moves around, with its cushions and hammocks, off in the wilderness beyond. Wherever you are, the food is fresh, hearty and delicious, wines are good, the table (if there is one) generously laid. And don’t forget the wild social life - cocktails with the lions, dinner with the elephants. |
