If one tried to dream up geography and topography for the clash between two great empires, one could hardly come up with a more fantastic scene than this one.

Fugitives Drift Lodge is situated in a game reserve overlooking the famous Zulu War fields of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift. The graves of Lt. Melvill V.C and Lt. Coghill V.C who died saving their Queen’s Colour are within this 2000 hectare Natural Heritage Site, boasting prolific birdlife, many species of game, fishing and horseriding.

David Rattray has made this place famous for the quality of its battlefield tours, and the visitor will be spellbound with the event on 22 January 1879, related in exquisite detail.

David Rattray was awarded the Royal Geographical Society Ness Award in 1999 and the Tatler/Gordon Campbell Grey award for “Vision in Tourism” in 2002.
